In 1961 Gibson changed the form of his Les Paul models radically. The body became lighter and thiner and got a new double cutaway. This new "Les Paul" later received the name SG (for Solid Guitar) and became the brand of Rock ´n Roll in the 60s. Although the traditional fat Les Pauls returned later on, the SG had become famous and was able to keep its position on the large stages of the world due to its unique design.

The large edition has both a 490R and a 498T pick-up with chromed claps inside the black beatboard, a neck binding and trapeze fret-board inlay
